Junior QA Automation Engineer

Location: Remote, but candidates must live in the Continental US and be US citizens or Permanent Residents. The company is based in Washington, DC.

Salary: USD 65,000–85,000 per year.

What you will do

• Develop, execute, maintain, and troubleshoot automated test scripts and reusable test components.
• Perform functional, regression, integration, smoke, automated, and manual testing across browsers, environments, configurations, and platforms.
• Review requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria; validate application behavior, outputs, data processing, and user interactions.
• Document defects with reproduction steps and evidence, retest fixes, and investigate failures involving applications, scripts, test data, or environments.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD workflows and identify gaps in test coverage.
• Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders in Agile activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or an associate degree plus two years of experience.
• 0–2 years of experience in software testing, quality assurance, test automation, or application development; internships, academic projects, and practical training may count.
• Foundational programming knowledge and at least one language such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or C#.
• Understanding of test cases, test execution, defect reporting, regression testing, software development lifecycles, and Agile practices.
• Basic ability to read, write, and troubleshoot automated test scripts.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, attention-to-detail, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to follow technical specifications, work under guidance, collaborate with development teams, and document technical issues clearly.
• Must live in the Continental US and be either a US citizen or Permanent Resident.
• Successful completion of a background check, background investigation, and standard onboarding is required; a Public Trust designation or security clearance may be required depending on the agency.

Nice to have

• Government contracting or healthcare experience, including CMS or health-industry experience.
• Exposure to Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or comparable test automation frameworks.
• Familiarity with Postman, SQL and database validation, Git, CI/CD tools, Jira, Azure DevOps, RESTful APIs, and client-server architecture.
• Academic, internship, or personal projects involving software development or automated testing.
• Living in a HUBZone-certified area is strongly encouraged.
