Software Test Developer (QA Automation)

Location: Remote in Canada, or Toronto, Ontario; Kitchener, Ontario; Vancouver, British Columbia; or Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Salary: CAD 70,000–85,000 annual base salary, with potential additional benefits, equity grants, and variable incentive.

What you will do

• Own the team’s overall quality strategy and help optimize quality throughout development.
• Design and write automated tests, contribute to product code and automation frameworks, and participate in code reviews.
• Plan and execute exploratory testing and implement reliability engineering strategies where appropriate.
• Identify defects, design issues, risks, and gaps in analysis and test coverage across the software development lifecycle.
• Coach teammates on quality activities, foster a mature quality culture, and communicate quality concerns clearly.
• Collaborate with developers, testers, designers, technical product managers, and development managers on an Agile team.

Requirements

• Expertise in finding software defects and design issues throughout the development process.
• High standards for software quality, performance, and security.
• Experience creating feedback loops for continuous improvement of testing.
• Coding skills in Swift, Objective-C, C#, or Java, and/or scripting skills in JavaScript, Python, Perl, or PowerShell, enabling production-code review and test-automation contributions.
• Strong critical-thinking skills for identifying risks and coverage gaps.
• Ability to design effective automation tests and contribute to automation frameworks.
• Ability to collaborate on testable features and identify testing tasks during design.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in computer science, computer engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
• Passion for advocating for users during the development process.
