Senior Financial Lines Underwriter (gn)

Location: Milan, Italy; hybrid workplace

What you will do

• Underwrite new and renewal Financial Lines business within agreed authorities, appetite, pricing standards, and governance requirements.
• Assess complex local and international risks, especially Professional Indemnity and Directors & Officers, and negotiate coverage, pricing, terms, and conditions.
• Build and manage a profitable portfolio by monitoring performance, rate adequacy, exposure, retention, conversion, and portfolio mix.
• Develop relationships with Italian brokers, intermediaries, clients, and distribution partners while identifying new business and renewal opportunities.
• Contribute to product development, wording review, proposition design, training, reporting, and cross-functional service delivery.
• Support the growth of the local underwriting capability through coaching, collaboration with European peers, and market representation across Italy and Europe.

Requirements

• Typically 7–10 years of experience in the Italian Financial Lines insurance market with a recognised insurer or specialist underwriting business.
• Strong technical underwriting expertise in Professional Indemnity and Directors & Officers, with the ability to work across additional Financial Lines classes.
• Track record of underwriting and developing profitable new and renewal business, including complex risks and negotiated placements.
• Strong understanding of the Italian broker market, established broker relationships, and knowledge of Financial Lines wordings, coverage structures, market practices, pricing, and portfolio management.
• Ability to balance commercial opportunity with disciplined risk selection, appropriate pricing, and sustainable profitability.
• Experience in broker development, pipeline management, renewal planning, and market-facing business development.
• People management experience or the capability and ambition to coach, lead, and develop a growing team.
• Excellent communication, presentation, influencing, and negotiation skills.
• Fluent written and spoken Italian and English required.
• University degree or equivalent professional experience; confidence using Microsoft Office and underwriting and portfolio management systems.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Cyber risk underwriting.
• Insurance or underwriting qualifications.
• Experience across additional Financial Lines classes.
