Senior Platform Engineer (DevOps)

Location: Cambridge, England, United Kingdom; the role is based at Melbourn Science Park, approximately 10 miles south of Cambridge.

What you will do

• Design architecture for test, build, and deployment pipelines and services underpinning factory software.
• Guide technical decisions across on-premises hardware, hypervisors, container orchestration, platform services, application software, robotics, and cloud.
• Diagnose CI/CD pipeline issues, perform platform maintenance, and deploy software into new factory networks.
• Provide practical platform guidance and review technical contributions across the software engineering group.
• Advise on regulatory and security best practices for local CI and remote factory production environments.
• Collaborate with robotics, systems engineering, and test teams.

Requirements

• Strong background designing, implementing, and deploying platform infrastructure and services for rapid and robust software delivery to in-house and remote environments.
• Excellent understanding of infrastructure automation and scripting with Terraform, Ansible, Python, and Bash.
• Ability to design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines with high-quality technical documentation and strong DevOps practices, using tools such as Bitbucket, GitHub, Jenkins, or CircleCI.
• Practical experience with servers, networking, storage, virtualization, containerization, or cloud infrastructure such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience designing and deploying software-delivery infrastructure for on-premises and remote environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills when supporting developers and stakeholders.
• Degree or vocational qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in software, DevOps, platform, or infrastructure roles.

• Interest or previous experience with robotic automation systems or regulated environments.
• Understanding of DevOps security best practices.

• Ability to evaluate and integrate new technologies into an existing platform.
