Director, Platform Engineering

Location: Remote in the UK or Ireland; citizenship, settled status, ILR, or existing right to work required. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: £120,000 per year plus a 10% bonus.

Build an internal payments technology platform operating like an AWS across public cloud and on-premises infrastructure.

What you will do

• Lead, hire, and develop a platform engineering team covering Systems, Network, Identity, or Reliability & Performance.
• Set technical direction and own architecture and design decisions.
• Turn platform capabilities into self-service, API-driven services for engineers and AI agents.
• Write and review code, infrastructure as code, and designs, while investigating production incidents.
• Own the roadmap, quarterly planning, delivery, ticket elimination, and service-level outcomes.
• Make AI-assisted engineering standard practice and build PCI DSS and SOX controls with automated evidence.

Requirements

• Experience leading production engineering teams, including hiring and performance management.
• Hands-on expertise in systems, network, reliability, or identity engineering.
• Strong infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform and Ansible, plus secrets management, service discovery, OIDC, and observability.
• Public cloud experience with AWS and/or Azure, GCP, or OCI.
• Experience operating production services in regulated environments involving PCI DSS and SOX.
• Daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex, with an understanding of MCP and AI agents.
• Existing right to work in the UK or Ireland through citizenship, settled status, or ILR.

Nice to have

• Experience with Vault, Consul, Entra ID, OpenTelemetry, vSphere, Palo Alto, or HAProxy.
