Network Infrastructure Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Cambridge, England, United Kingdom; the role covers on-site test environments and customer-site factory deployments.

What you will do

• Design, build, maintain, and deploy compute and network infrastructure for test environments, prototype rigs, demonstration factory lines, and customer sites.
• Specify equipment with suppliers and build server racks, install software, fit cabling, configure routing, and set up service monitoring.
• Configure segregated factory networks, industrial workstation connections, remote monitoring, and remote deployment tools.
• Work with Platform Engineering, robotics, systems engineering, and test teams to deliver infrastructure scaled for each installation.
• Provide proactive customer support and maintenance, communicating equipment needs, reconfiguration, repairs, and emerging risks early.

Requirements

• Strong background designing, implementing, and deploying platform infrastructure in in-house and remote environments.
• Ability to build and configure server racks and install and connect switches, routers, patch panels, and power systems.
• Ability to configure TCP/IP addressing schemes, physical and logical network segmentation, routing, and firewall rules.
• Ability to install and configure Linux and Windows operating systems and remote deployment tools on bare-metal industrial and embedded PCs.
• Proactive, collaborative approach to customer support and system maintenance, with clear communication to relevant stakeholders.
• Degree or vocational qualification in Computer Engineering, Networking, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in network, infrastructure, or industrial IT roles.

Nice to have

• Interest or previous experience with robotic automation systems, industrial or embedded PCs, or factory installations; experience with Ubiquiti equipment is also desirable.
• Experience monitoring network and compute health and capacity, diagnosing hardware failures, configuration errors, and capacity limitations.
• Experience maintaining network architecture, server racking, cabling, wiring documentation, and diagrams.
• Experience selecting and procuring server hardware, network switches and routers, cabling, and UPS systems for different projects.
