Principal Network Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, United Kingdom

Salary: £90,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, operate, and improve networking across data centres, cloud services, routing, firewalls, load balancing, and private connectivity.
• Act as the senior technical lead for the internal platform and shape architecture and engineering standards.
• Identify architectural patterns and gaps early and deliver network capabilities as APIs.
• Code and use AI-assisted engineering with agentic tools such as Claude, Codex, and Cursor.
• Write architectural documents, RFCs, and post-incident reviews.
• Communicate technical concepts with technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• Principal or lead-level network engineering experience.
• Experience with routing and switching, including BGP, OSPF, VLAN, VXLAN/EVPN, QoS, and L2–L7 protocols.
• Experience running networks in AWS, Azure, OCI, or GCP.
• Experience working on firewall policy in highly regulated environments such as PCI DSS or SOX.
• Infrastructure as code experience with Terraform and Ansible.
• Coding experience with Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar.
• Strong Linux experience.
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering using Claude, Codex, or Cursor, plus MCP for connecting AI agents.
• Experience writing architectural documents, RFCs, and post-incident reviews, with the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
