IT Linux Administrator (Linux)

Location: Farnborough, United Kingdom; 5 days a week onsite. Full-time, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, with opportunities for overtime and participation in an on-call rota. The role requires holding or being able and willing to obtain UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.

What you will do

• Administer and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, and other Linux-based operating systems.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve Linux server and application issues, including patching, upgrades, performance tuning, and lifecycle management.
• Deploy, configure, harden, back up, monitor, and maintain recoverable Linux systems in line with security standards.
• Support virtualised Linux environments using VMware and manage user access, permissions, and authentication services.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash, Python, or Ansible.
• Support infrastructure and security projects while maintaining system documentation, asset records, operational procedures, accreditation, and compliance standards.

Requirements

• Strong Linux administration experience within enterprise environments.
• Hands-on experience supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, or similar Linux distributions.
• Experience with Linux system patching, performance tuning, troubleshooting, security best practices, hardening standards, and vulnerability remediation.
• Experience with VMware and virtualised server environments.
• Familiarity with Bash, Python, or Ansible scripting and automation tools.
• Ability to work within IT security policies, governance frameworks, and change management processes.
• Proactive, self-motivated, organised, and reliable, with the ability to manage an independent workload in a fast-paced technical environment.
• DV clearance, or willingness and eligibility to undergo DV vetting.
• Interest in learning new technologies and developing technical capability.
