Interaction Designer (GOV.UK)

What you will do

• Design end-to-end user journeys and interactions for complex digital services based on user research.
• Prototype and iterate designs using the GOV.UK Design System, creating new patterns where required.
• Test designs with users, including people who use assistive technology, and improve designs based on evidence.
• Ensure services meet WCAG 2.2 AA and the GDS Service Standard.
• Collaborate with user researchers, content designers, developers and product managers in multidisciplinary agile teams.
• Explain and document design decisions, support service assessments, and participate in design and front-end code reviews.

Requirements

• BPSS clearance or the ability to obtain it.
• Demonstrable experience designing and delivering interaction design for complex digital services.
• Experience working in UK government or public sector digital delivery, with knowledge of the GOV.UK Design System and GDS Service Standard.
• Experience with prototyping and usability testing.
• Strong understanding of accessibility and inclusive design.
• Experience using Figma or similar design tools.
• Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams.
• A portfolio showing end-to-end work and the evidence behind it.

Nice to have

• Experience with Alpha, Beta and Live service assessments.
• Experience designing transactional services such as forms and applications.
• Experience with the GOV.UK Prototype Kit.
• Experience mentoring other designers.
• Understanding of how services are built, including HTML and CSS.
