Tech & Language Specialist (Subtitling)

Location: Malaysia (Remote); working hours are 9:30am–6:00pm UK time (GMT/BST), with flexibility sometimes required during peak periods or business needs.

What you will do

• Perform full and spot technical quality control on subtitles, closed captions, forced narratives, recuts, and localisation files across multiple languages.
• Identify, correct, and report timing, positioning, and other technical subtitle issues; investigate rejection reports and apply corrections.
• Prepare, quality-check, extract, and export final subtitle and localisation deliverables.
• Evaluate freelance supplier tests, assess suppliers, and complete evaluation reports.
• Test subtitling tools and ASR, STT, and MT technologies, assessing performance and accuracy.
• Create and maintain guidelines, train employees and freelance partners, and provide linguistic and client-specific support.

Requirements

• Degree in Audiovisual Translation or a related subject.
• Native-standard English skills at CEFR C2 level or equivalent, including excellent understanding of grammar, idiom, and cultural nuance.
• Experience in a similar role within translation, localisation, or media localisation.
• Experience with technical quality control and recut work, plus proven subtitling experience using varied specifications and software.
• Professional proofreading experience.
• Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn new tools quickly.
• Excellent organisation and time management; ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• High accuracy and attention to detail, a proactive approach, initiative, and strong written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with MT, ASR, and STT post-editing.
• Experience testing MT, ASR, and STT engines.
