Systems Engineer (Microsoft Infrastructure)

Location: Hybrid remote in Charleston, South Carolina, United States, with on-site travel to client facilities as projects require, including possible multi-day trips.

Salary: $90,000–$115,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, deploy, and deliver infrastructure projects including virtualized server environments, Active Directory implementations, network segmentation, cloud migrations, and hybrid infrastructure builds.
• Design Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, PKI, VMware vSphere/ESXi, Hyper-V, storage, networking, and high-availability environments.
• Design network infrastructure with VLANs, firewall policies, VPN connectivity, routing, switch management, and site-specific integrations.
• Implement Microsoft 365 and Azure services, including Entra ID, Conditional Access, Intune, and hybrid identity.
• Automate deployments and recurring tasks with PowerShell or other scripting, and support tenant hardening, vulnerability remediation, and security controls.
• Lead projects from requirements gathering through implementation, testing, documentation, change reviews, and handoff; mentor junior administrators.

Requirements

• 5–8+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure design, or senior systems administration.
• Deep knowledge of Windows Server 2016–2025, Active Directory design, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and PKI/Certificate Services.
• Strong experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting VMware vSphere/ESXi and/or Hyper-V environments.
• Solid networking skills, including VLAN design, firewall configuration, VPN implementation, routing fundamentals, and switch management.
• Experience designing and deploying infrastructure for new sites or facilities.
• PowerShell proficiency for automation, deployment, and configuration management.
• Ability to create architecture diagrams, design documents, SOPs, runbooks, and other clear technical documentation.
• Proven ability to scope, plan, execute, and deliver infrastructure projects independently.
• Ability to travel to client facilities as projects require, including possible multi-day trips.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and be a U.S. citizen.

Nice to have

• Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, life sciences, defense, or other regulated environments.
• Familiarity with GxP, CMMC, HIPAA, or formal change management requirements.
• Experience with OT networks, manufacturing control systems, SCADA, or industrial automation infrastructure.
• Microsoft 365 and Azure experience, including Entra ID, Conditional Access, Intune, Azure networking, and hybrid identity.
• Experience with Terraform, Bicep, CI/CD pipelines, configuration management tools, or on-premises and VMware migrations to Azure.
• Experience with ITIL, ServiceNow, or site-specific quality management systems.
• Certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-305, CompTIA Security+, CCNA, or VCP.
