Systems Engineer II (IT Infrastructure)

Location: Lafayette, LA, United States; occasional visits to client sites required. A valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation are required.

Salary: $65,000–$75,000 annually, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Install, configure, maintain, and monitor client servers, workstations, networks, software, and other IT infrastructure.
• Deploy and manage Windows Server, Linux, virtualization technologies, cloud services, virtual machines, storage, and network configurations.
• Configure routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, antivirus, encryption, secure authentication, vulnerability assessments, patch management, and intrusion detection or prevention systems.
• Troubleshoot complex hardware, software, network, security, connectivity, latency, and performance issues; serve as an escalation point and proactively prevent failures.
• Manage backups, restores, disaster recovery, business continuity, cloud migrations, and regular backup testing to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Document client environments, maintain SOPs and service tickets, report on performance and security, communicate with clients, and support technical projects in collaboration with engineers, technicians, account managers, and support teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 4–5 years of experience in systems engineering, IT infrastructure, or a related field, with a strong understanding of system architecture and design principles.
• Proficiency with operating systems such as Windows and Linux and virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.
• Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and security practices, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex systems and propose effective solutions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
• Availability for on-call duty every 4 weeks; a bonus is paid during on-call weeks.
• Occasional travel to client sites; mileage is provided when a personal vehicle is used.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Ansible, or Terraform.
• Experience with ConnectWise.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
• Experience with Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
• Familiarity with SQL Server, MySQL, and data backup and recovery solutions.
