Software Engineer II, Full Stack (Card Pre-Swipe Experience)

Location: Remote Canada; candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.

Base pay: CAD $133,000–$183,000 per year.

What you will do

• Break larger projects into tasks, deliver them in phases, and collaborate to ensure timely delivery.
• Partner with Product, Design, Analytics, and engineering stakeholders during ideation and technical decision-making, considering risks and trade-offs.
• Build and support customer-facing Affirm Card features and the services behind them.
• Create and monitor operational metrics, escalate issues, and support availability, on-call, and keep-the-lights-on efforts.
• Contribute to team growth and development, including participating in interviews.

Requirements

• At least 1.5 years of total software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems; proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web applications with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching APIs at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Ability to turn business scenarios into solutions spanning multiple software components and write clear, well-tested, extensible code.
• Ability to navigate large codebases, debug other engineers' code, and provide code-review feedback.
• Proactive ownership of professional growth and strong verbal and written communication for collaboration with a global engineering team.
