Program Manager (Quantum Computing)

What you will do

• Own contracted milestone delivery, including schedules, success criteria, baseline costs, technical and commercial evidence, reviews, sign-off, and claims.
• Manage critical paths across physical builds, long-lead procurement, software, integration, subcontractors, and academic partners.
• Maintain a risk register with named owners and live mitigations; present options and recommendations to the executive team when commitments conflict.
• Connect funded contract results, constraints, and customer signals with hirify.global’s product roadmap and track scientific, technical, industrial, and commercial progress.
• Shape IP, freedom-to-operate, and licensing strategy with legal, IP, and commercial stakeholders, while driving follow-on funding, customer contracts, and investment.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience running complex technical programs combining hardware and software, including at least one program worth £5m or more with reporting obligations to an external funder or customer.
• Hands-on experience with milestone-based contracts, including milestone definition, acceptance evidence, cost and schedule control, and management of subcontractors and academic partners where IP is sensitive.
• Familiarity with the UK funding system and assessor and auditor expectations.
• Technical depth sufficient to read a quantum-computing system architecture and challenge estimates; a physical sciences or engineering degree, or equivalent working depth.
• Ability to work credibly with physicists, funders, auditors, and executives; produce written reports that withstand assessor review.
• Experience using project-management software and AI tools to automate routine work.

Nice to have

• Delivery experience with Innovate UK, SBRI, Contracts for Innovation, DSIT, NQCC, STFC, or DSTL programs, especially staged public-sector competitions.
• Background in quantum technologies, superconducting systems, cryogenics, large-scale scientific instrumentation, or HPC/data centres.
• Experience taking a research-stage system into an operated service with uptime and support obligations.
