Accident & Health Underwriter (Insurance)

Location: Remote - United States; ability to travel up to 20% of the year.

Base salary: $81,665–$110,480 per year.

What you will do

• Evaluate new and renewal submissions for risk acceptability, coverage, pricing, limits, and terms.
• Apply underwriting guidelines, procedures, regulations, and delegated authority.
• Gather information from customers, agents, and brokers; clarify requirements, negotiate policy terms, and participate in stewardship meetings.
• Use analytical tools to evaluate exposures and claims drivers while collaborating with underwriters and other specialists.
• Document underwriting decisions and communications, and manage profitability, risk characteristics, submission flow, relationships, and customer service for the assigned territory.
• Support marketing activities and participate in or lead projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred, or 4–7 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret business, professional, technical, regulatory, underwriting, financial, claims, and industry materials.
• Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the year.

Nice to have

• Willingness to complete the requirements for the CPCU or RPLU designation.
