  • Drive matters from initial assessment through resolution, including case strategy, exposure analysis, factual development, discovery, briefing, witness preparation, settlement, trial, and appellate recommendations.
  • Build the litigation function’s operating model, including matter intake, escalation, deadline management, budgeting, reporting, knowledge management, resourcing, and team development.
  • Design litigation-readiness, legal-hold, preservation, collection, review, production, subpoena, and government-demand workflows with Legal, IT, Security, Research, Privacy, and outside specialists.
  • Lead regulatory and internal investigations, enforcement responses, sensitive matters, and cross-functional advice on risks involving training data, model development, releases, licensing, commercial relationships, and public representations.
  • Develop playbooks and training, coordinate with Communications, and advise Finance and legal colleagues on reporting, insurance, indemnification, and financial exposure.

Requirements

  • J.D. and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar, with the ability to satisfy requirements to practice in the role’s location.
  • Approximately 12+ years of relevant litigation experience combining law-firm practice with in-house experience at a technology company.
  • Proven ability to independently lead complex matters, make strategic decisions, direct outside counsel, and advise business leaders through uncertainty.
  • Broad civil litigation experience with strong command of procedure, discovery, evidence, motion practice, and dispute resolution, including meaningful technology or intellectual property disputes.
  • Experience building and implementing legal systems, workflows, or programs and converting policies or playbooks into practical processes.

  • Experience establishing or scaling a litigation function at a growing company.
  • Experience with open-source software, open-weight models, AI systems, or technically complex discovery.
  • Experience coordinating cross-border disputes or investigations and managing counsel in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience developing legal talent, leading teams, or using legal technology to improve matter management and discovery.
