Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States

Salary: US Tier 1: $228,000–$342,000; US Tier 2: $205,200–$307,800; US Tier 3: $182,400–$273,600 annually

What you will do

• Own the patent portfolio end to end, including invention harvesting, filing strategy, prosecution management, and lifecycle decisions.
• Partner with physicists, chemists, machine learning researchers, scientists, and engineers to identify and review patentable work.
• Manage outside patent firms and foreign associates for quality, cost, and timeliness.
• Conduct freedom-to-operate and clearance analyses to inform product strategy and launches.
• Provide IP guidance for commercial, collaboration, and corporate transactions.
• Build the broader IP program, including trade secrets and trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• At least 7 years of substantive intellectual property law experience with significant patent law expertise.
• Strong technical fluency and the ability to work credibly with PhD-level physicists, chemists, machine learning researchers, and other technical experts.
• Strategic, agile, collaborative, and able to translate complex legal concepts into actionable business strategies.
• Experience in fast-paced, high-growth environments with rapid decision-making.

Nice to have

• Combination of in-house and Big Law experience.
• USPTO registration or patent bar admission.
• STEM degree in physics, chemistry, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with AI/ML, life sciences, computational chemistry, or Section 101 eligibility strategy for software and algorithmic inventions.
• Experience building an early-stage IP program, government-funded contracts, trade secrets, litigation, contested proceedings, or AI tooling for legal work.
