Director, Legal Engineering (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to work from the San Francisco office five days per week. Travel is required for strategic clients, market development, and team leadership.

Base salary: $289K–$391K, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Lead the West Coast Legal Engineering function from the San Francisco office, setting its operating rhythm, quality bar, capacity model, and partnership with Go-to-Market and Engagement.
• Hire Legal Engineers and future leaders, owning sourcing, interview calibration, closing, onboarding, and ramp.
• Build and develop a Team Lead management layer with clear decision rights and succession paths.
• Partner on priority accounts, pilots, rollouts, escalations, and complex enterprise engagements; connect delivery to conversion, adoption, usage, expansion, and revenue.
• Translate legal problems into concrete Legora workflows and reusable delivery playbooks, while overseeing governance, outcomes, dependencies, and risks.
• Represent West Coast client and market insights internally, inform Product, and shape Legora’s perspective on AI and legal work.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with a JD and admission to at least one US bar.
• Substantial experience in legal practice, legal operations, legal technology, professional services, or related fields, with a strong understanding of sophisticated law firms and in-house legal teams.
• Experience building a team, function, market, or operating model from a low base, with clear evidence of personal decisions and sustainable results.
• Experience managing and developing strong people, ideally including managers or Team Leads, with evidence of accelerating team members’ careers.
• Deep curiosity about generative AI and product; ability to learn the platform, challenge use-case design, and coach credible client work without needing to be a software engineer.
• Ability to work effectively with Managing Partners, General Counsels, executive teams, and delivery teams.
• Understanding of legal services and enterprise software economics, including pipeline, client value, adoption, usage, and revenue.
• Ability to bring structure to ambiguity, build operating systems, and exercise strong hiring and performance judgment.
• Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and work from the San Francisco office five days per week.
