Software Development Engineer III (Maps API)

Location: Remote in the United Kingdom

What you will do

• Lead the engineering team in scoping and delivering well-defined work with high quality.
• Design scalable systems and make architectural decisions for high-volume mapping APIs and distributed ETL pipelines.
• Build and deploy microservices, improve application performance, and reduce technical debt.
• Mentor engineers through 1:1s, design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and documentation.
• Test and monitor systems, support continuous delivery, diagnose complex production behavior, and participate in on-call support.
• Promote collaboration, transparency, inclusion, data-driven decisions, and operational excellence.

Requirements

• 8–10+ years of experience building scalable, high-volume, low-latency backend services.
• Proficiency with Python, NodeJS, native AWS, and C++.
• Experience building mapping and geospatial products.
• Experience with AWS CDK, ECS, Step Functions, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and CloudFront.
• Familiarity with code versioning tools such as GitHub.
• Ability to independently perform development tasks from designs and specifications.
• Analytical, outcomes-oriented, and self-starting approach, including forming hypotheses, conducting spikes, and communicating findings.
• Commitment to documentation, mentorship, pairing, knowledge sharing, and collaboration with people from diverse backgrounds.
• High-quality engineering mindset, including unit testing, proactive defect remediation, and follow-through to production.
