Senior Engineer (Business Applications)

Location: Remote, United States

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 annual base salary; full-time roles are also eligible for equity in the form of stock options.

What you will do

• Lead discovery with business stakeholders, define problems and success measures, and translate pain points into scoped solution approaches.
• Design, build, test, release, monitor, support, and retire business applications and automations using Atlassian tools, Workato, AWS middleware, and AI platforms.
• Build and maintain Workato recipes and connectors with resilient error handling, monitoring, secure credentials, and auditable data flows.
• Engineer Jira, Jira Service Management, and Confluence workflows, custom fields, automations, service management configurations, and governed citizen-development frameworks.
• Serve as the technical escalation point for IT Admins and AI Admins, review their work, mentor them, and collaborate with Security and IT Engineering on access controls.
• Write architecture documents, runbooks, handoff materials, and delivery reports covering reliability, adoption, and delivery velocity.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in IT, business systems engineering, integration, or automation engineering, including 3+ years building and supporting production integrations or automations.
• Demonstrated ownership of solutions from requirements gathering through production support, including complex, high-impact projects with little to no supervision.
• Hands-on experience with iPaaS integrations, preferably Workato, including error handling, monitoring, and secure credential management.
• Working knowledge of APIs, webhooks, data models, REST, and event-driven integration patterns, with the ability to write custom code or scripts when iPaaS tooling is insufficient.
• Hands-on experience engineering workflows, custom fields, and automations in Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence, or comparable work management and ITSM platforms.
• Experience gathering requirements from non-technical teams and converting them into design documents and testable acceptance criteria.
• Understanding of RBAC, least-privilege access, service accounts, and data privacy for integrations and automations.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers or administrators and explaining design decisions and tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; experience supporting a distributed or remote-first workforce.
• Required technical experience includes Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence or comparable platforms; Workato or a similar iPaaS; APIs, webhooks, REST, and event-driven integrations; Python, JavaScript, Ruby, or another scripting language; and AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, or EventBridge, or similar cloud middleware.

Nice to have

• Experience building governed self-service or citizen development programs with business-team guardrails.
• Experience designing JSM service catalogs, request types, and SLAs that improved response and resolution times.
• Experience building agents, Projects, Skills, or Gems on Glean, Rovo, Claude, Gemini, or AWS Bedrock for real business use cases.
• Experience building audit-ready integrations in SOC 2 or similarly regulated environments.
• Track record of developing administrators or junior engineers into higher-scope roles.
• Atlassian, Workato, AWS, or similar certifications.
• Experience in high-growth SaaS or cybersecurity companies.
