Senior C++ Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Remote, UK-based. Candidates must have the existing right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available. Occasional out-of-hours work is required for production releases, scheduled maintenance, and Level 3 support during critical incidents.

What you will do

• Shape the technical direction of the Switchboard trading platform and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Build, test, deploy, support, and improve pricing engines, connectivity gateways, market-data systems, and messaging components.
• Optimise microsecond-level latency and high-throughput messaging in production trading systems.
• Work with market-data and reference-data pipelines, FIX integrations, observability, dashboards, alerting, and metrics.
• Provide technical oversight through solution design, peer reviews, and constructive challenge of assumptions.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and participate in incident investigation, production support, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of C++ experience with Linux systems programming.
• Strong understanding of low-level systems and the ability to work close to the metal.
• Experience optimising complex, latency-sensitive systems through systematic profiling, diagnosis, and performance troubleshooting.
• Deep understanding of distributed-systems architecture and network protocols, including TCP/UDP, socket programming, and FIX.
• Experience with system design, architectural trade-offs, and decisions carried through to production.
• Python experience for scripting, automation, testing, data analysis, tooling, and operational workflows.
• Git and shell-scripting experience.
• Delivery-focused ownership of production systems, including incident response with a 15-minute acknowledgement SLA during working hours.
• Ability to conduct thoughtful peer reviews, mentor engineers, document decisions, communicate proactively across time zones, and write clean, testable code.

Nice to have

• Go experience; Go is used for microservices and command-line tooling.
• Experience in financial services or trading technology.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn and use AI tools such as Claude and Gemini.
