Senior Quality Engineer (Python/Databricks)

Location: Hybrid, with two days per week in the office in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, New York, or West Hartford, United States

Salary: $120,000–$160,000 annually, plus performance-based bonus

What you will do

• Engage stakeholders early to understand business needs for data applications and convert them into clear, testable requirements with product owners.
• Develop automated tests and expand automation frameworks to verify requirements and prevent regression.
• Collaborate with data engineers and quality engineers to deliver quality code and coherent, comprehensive test coverage.
• Participate in code reviews for data and quality engineers and promote continuous improvement.
• Balance detailed quality validation with risk-based approaches to deliver outcomes at high velocity.
• Help build a culture where everyone owns quality in a psychologically safe environment.

Requirements

• Confidence, ability, and desire to shift left and understand what quality means for the business.
• Deep familiarity with behavior-driven development, including Cucumber and Gherkin syntax for test scenarios.
• Experience with modern test automation and an SDET approach involving production code for quality outcomes.
• Excellent knowledge of Python testing frameworks, particularly pytest.
• Good knowledge of SQL and ideally dbt.
• Hands-on experience with modern cloud data lakehouse technologies, such as Databricks or Snowflake.
• Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical colleagues in Agile Scrum ceremonies, including roadmap planning, feature workshops, backlog elaboration, and code review.
• Ability to understand data structures and algorithms and apply this knowledge when learning new tools; familiarity with the entire technology stack is not required.
