Windows Platform Architect (Cybersecurity)

Location: Remote (United States); US hours required for urgent platform issues

Salary: $240,000–$250,000 base plus 15% bonus

What you will do

• Own the design of core Windows components, including kernel drivers and user-mode services.
• Optimize CPU usage, memory usage, startup time, stability, and performance across a Windows product running on millions of PCs.
• Investigate complex system issues using crash dumps, traces, and kernel debugging.
• Lead driver signing and certification with Microsoft and review new Windows features and APIs.
• Work with Research, Cloud, Product, and Windows and Core Technology teams to bring protection features to the OS level.
• Coach engineers, lead at least one major driver or core component change, and serve as the senior technical lead for Windows platform issues during US hours.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software development experience with a deep focus on Windows internals.
• Hands-on experience with file system minifilters, kernel callbacks, and the Windows driver model.
• Strong C and C++ skills.
• Experience with C# and .NET performance, including startup time and memory usage.
• Experience with WinDbg, ETW, WPA, and PerfView.
• Experience shipping highly privileged software to large numbers of PCs where stability is critical.
• Track record of solving complex problems and shipping production software.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and a habit of sharing knowledge.

Nice to have

• Experience with antivirus or endpoint protection products.
• Knowledge of ELAM, Protected Process Light, or other Windows security features.
• Experience with HLK, WHQL, or attestation driver signing.
• Experience with cloud-to-endpoint telemetry.
