Principal Software Developer (System Security)

Location: Hybrid in Huntsville, Alabama, United States.

What you will do

• Develop and enhance OS-level security features for Windows, Linux, and VxWorks.
• Build detection and response mechanisms against advanced persistent threats.
• Implement cryptographic binding of sensitive software to trusted hardware and integrate Hardware Root of Trust solutions.
• Create system lockdown capabilities that reduce attack surfaces and protect applications and data during execution and at rest.
• Support multi-layered cyber resiliency across hardware, firmware, software, and network layers.
• Learn kernel programming and driver development with mentorship from senior engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software development experience in systems-level programming; typically, a university degree or equivalent experience with 8+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced related degree with at least 5 years of experience.
• Expert-level C/C++ skills, including memory management, pointers, and low-level programming concepts.
• Strong OS-level systems programming experience beyond desktop or high-level application development.
• Experience debugging crashes, memory corruption, and system-level issues with tools such as gdb, WinDbg, Visual Studio Debugger, or similar.
• Proficiency with Git in a team environment.
• Ability to learn new technical domains independently.
• Must meet the requirements to obtain and maintain a Secret government security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship is required; candidates must meet requirements for access to classified information.
• Primary experience in web development, mobile applications, enterprise applications, high-level languages without C/C++ depth, cloud services, DevOps, or infrastructure automation is not a suitable match; less than 8 years of professional software development experience is disqualifying.

Nice to have

• Experience with kernel modules, device drivers, system services, OS internals projects, or security tools.
• Experience with anti-malware, EDR, security monitoring, or exploit mitigation.
• Knowledge of process and thread management, memory management, I/O systems, and interrupt handling.
• Assembly language experience with x86_64 or ARM.
• Python or Batch scripting for automation and testing.
• Knowledge of cryptography, threat modeling, attack surfaces, boot processes, firmware, TPM, Secure Boot, UEFI, and Linux or Windows driver models.
