Cloud Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Canada; candidates must be located in Canada. Occasional onsite work is required. Candidates within commutable distance of Waterloo or Toronto are preferred. Relocation is not provided.

Salary: CAD $122,010–$165,070 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Build and maintain high-performance microservices and RESTful or gRPC APIs for desktop and mobile consumer products.
• Develop secure, resilient, and cost-efficient infrastructure primarily on AWS.
• Manage and optimize PostgreSQL databases for availability and performance.
• Use Claude Code and other AI development agents to write, debug, and iterate on backend systems.
• Create Python and Bash automation scripts for deployment and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, QA Engineers, and Solution Architects; use Databricks or similar platforms to monitor consumer data and detect anomalies and systemic bugs.

Requirements

• Strong professional experience as a Backend or Cloud Engineer with deep expertise in Golang and its toolchain.
• Advanced production experience with AWS and cloud design principles.
• Proven experience designing scalable microservices architectures and building RESTful or gRPC APIs.
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL relational databases.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting for tooling, debugging, and automation.
• Experience using Databricks or equivalent big data and analytics tools to evaluate user traffic, data patterns, and platform health.
• Demonstrated experience using AI coding toolchains such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot to increase development velocity.
• Comfort working in Linux-based development environments, with an understanding of CI/CD and Test-Driven Development.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including collaboration with Architects, Product teams, and QA teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with Dart and Flutter.
• Experience with GCP and Couchbase Capella.
• Familiarity with .NET and C# for understanding legacy code during migration.
• Background or interest in cybersecurity and antivirus software data pipelines.
