Senior Software Developer - Cloud Platform

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid workplace.

Base salary: 130,000–150,000 CAD per year, plus participation in a discretionary bonus plan.

What you will do

• Build and operate a ClickHouse-centered data lake, including ingestion pipelines, data modeling, partitioning, and replication.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines and event-driven services for moving messages and data across the platform.
• Implement analytics jobs and REST APIs for product and application teams.
• Partner with application teams on data requirements, data design, and access patterns.
• Improve the latency, throughput, availability, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency of data services.
• Implement data protection, security, and privacy controls; document designs, evaluations, tests, and technical manuals.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years building data platforms or data-intensive distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with ClickHouse or a comparable OLAP database or query engine, including data modeling, ingestion, and query performance tuning.
• Experience with data lake architectures and open file and table formats such as Parquet and Apache Iceberg on object storage.
• Strong production experience with Python, including asynchronous programming, and/or Golang.
• Experience with data processing and analytics tools such as Pandas, Polars, DuckDB, or equivalents.
• Experience building data pipelines on messaging and streaming systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, or similar.
• Experience building REST APIs and distributed services.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD, observability, and AWS.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, distributed systems design, the SDLC, Agile, testing strategies, and secure engineering practices; strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Delta Lake, Dask, Ray, or Prefect.
• Experience with GCP or Azure.
• Kubernetes certification such as CKAD or CKA.
