Senior Network Systems Engineer (Cisco SD-WAN)

Location: Hybrid role based in Schiphol-Rijk, Netherlands, or Ireland, including Cork; some in-office and/or in-person expectations apply.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and operate enterprise routing across internet edge, WAN, and inter-site connectivity, including BGP and OSPF.
• Engineer Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN/Viptela, covering policy design, templates, site onboarding, and overlay and underlay troubleshooting.
• Support global office, laboratory, and manufacturing networks across access, distribution, core, wireless, and network access environments.
• Resolve complex escalated incidents through root-cause analysis and permanent remediation.
• Lead network builds, refreshes, migrations, and design changes while coordinating vendors and installation partners.
• Develop standards, runbooks, monitoring practices, architecture input, mentoring, and automation with infrastructure-as-code and SRE colleagues.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of applicable professional experience in enterprise network engineering and operations, including senior technical responsibility.
• Deep hands-on Cisco SD-WAN experience, including Catalyst SD-WAN/Viptela, vManage or Catalyst Manager, vBond, vSmart, policies, templates, site onboarding, and troubleshooting.
• Expert enterprise routing knowledge covering BGP, OSPF, route redistribution, path selection, and policy-based routing, with hands-on Cisco experience.
• Experience delivering complex enterprise or multi-site network projects from design and deployment through operational support.
• Strong campus LAN and WAN knowledge, including Layer 2/Layer 3 design, switching, VLANs, spanning tree, and first-hop redundancy.
• Experience using automation to improve network operations with Python, Ansible, Terraform, APIs, or similar technologies.
• Strong troubleshooting, incident-resolution, communication, and collaboration skills, including working across regions, contributing to technical decisions, and mentoring engineers.

Nice to have

• Enterprise wireless experience, including Cisco wireless or Juniper Mist.
• Network access control and segmentation experience with Cisco ISE, 802.1X, TACACS+, or RADIUS.
• Cloud networking experience with AWS, Azure, or OCI.
• Experience with network observability and telemetry platforms such as ThousandEyes, NetScout, SolarWinds, or LiveAction.
• Git-based workflows, CI/CD, network-as-code, SRE practices, AI-assisted network operations, workflow automation, or MCP.
• Firewall, data-centre networking, or load-balancing experience with technologies such as Palo Alto, Nexus, or ACI.
• CCNP, CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure, or Cisco SD-WAN specialisation certifications.
