Staff Engineer (Backend/Infrastructure)

Location: Office-based in Nicosia, Cyprus, four days per week, with one remote day of choice. Other location: London. Flexible start and finish times.

What you will do

• Define the technical vision, architecture, and standards across backend systems.
• Build shared platform tooling and evolve infrastructure for the engineering organisation.
• Manage migrations, including the move from a Ruby monolith.
• Make architectural decisions across distributed systems, APIs, and data infrastructure.
• Improve reliability, scalability, performance, latency, and fault tolerance at global consumer scale.
• Support domain-based team structures across areas such as pricing, matching, and supply engagement while fostering engineering excellence.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including strong backend expertise.
• Proven experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of backend architecture, infrastructure, and platform concerns.
• High technical judgment and attention to detail.
• Experience with consumer-scale products or marketplaces.
• Background in performance-critical systems requiring low latency and high availability.
