Senior Backend Engineer (Go)

Location: Hybrid work in the London office, or remote in the wider UK and Europe; company locations include Zurich, Spain, and the UK.

What you will do

• Build and operate the core backend service used by product teams, including APIs, persistence, email, user provisioning, and cross-tenant capabilities.
• Design and evolve APIs for document processing, approval workflows, administration, and analytics.
• Own the tenant-scoped persistence layer built on isolated MySQL databases, including repositories, transactions, permissions, and type-safe querying.
• Extend cross-tenant capabilities for enterprise customers with multiple subsidiaries and business units, and own email ingestion, outbound email, audit trails, and related UI.
• Turn manual SSO, SCIM, and email configuration into self-service migration tools and administration UIs; work with customer IT teams and project managers during onboarding.
• Own delivery from Go services through React UI and production, including tracing, metrics, and incident analysis.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience, primarily building and operating backend systems in production.
• 2+ years of professional Go experience writing production services.
• Experience designing a backend service or API used by other teams and keeping it reliable and evolvable as usage grows.
• Ability to collaborate with product, integration, and infrastructure teams on contracts, priorities, and rollouts, and explain technical trade-offs to non-engineers.
• Experience improving existing production systems incrementally and assessing when a rewrite is not worthwhile.
• Strong fundamentals in type systems, composition, testing, and clean architecture, with comfort working in a codebase using functional patterns.
• Fullstack capability sufficient to use maintained frontend components and design systems to ship administration UIs; deepest expertise must be in backend development.
• Product-oriented ownership, including translating business problems into specifications, weighing cost against benefit, working directly with customers when needed, and supporting shipped solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed systems, Kubernetes, Temporal, or cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with user provisioning using SCIM and SSO using OIDC.
• Experience operating multi-tenant systems.
• Domain knowledge in ERP, finance, procurement, or supply chain processes, or German language skills.
