Senior/Staff Backend Engineer (London, Hybrid)

Location: London, UK; hybrid and remote work options. Visa sponsorship and relocation support are available for a move to New York City after 2 years of tenure.

Base salary: £130,000–£220,000 per year. Equity: £40,000–£70,000.

What you will do

• Design backend systems and APIs, preferably with Python, that run real-time, business-critical accounting logic.
• Ship features end to end across architecture, CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and production operations.
• Integrate third-party tools and external systems while proactively managing edge cases and risk.
• Build robust financial workflows and contribute to a fast-moving, high-trust engineering environment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience; programming language is otherwise unrestricted.
• Deep experience building products with complex business logic.
• Strong database skills including PostgreSQL, SQL, ORMs, migrations, and schema design.
• Experience deploying on AWS or a similar cloud platform.
• Solid CI/CD and production-readiness fundamentals.
• High agency, strong work ethic, curiosity, and the ability to make pragmatic decisions and deploy frequently.

Nice to have

• Python experience with a modern web framework such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
