Senior Software Developer (EDI)

Location: 100% remote within the United States; candidates from California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington will not be considered. U.S. citizenship is required.

Salary: $85,389–$116,975 per year.

What you will do

• Own EDI workflows, partner requirements, data validation rules, and transaction processing.
• Interpret and troubleshoot X12 transactions including 270/271, 276/277, 278, 820, 834, 835, 837, and 999/277CA.
• Analyze SNIP compliance, companion guides, partner-specific rules, mappings, and implementation changes.
• Investigate transaction errors, payer or state-system rejections, middleware and API issues, and mismatches between raw EDI and stored data.
• Query SQL data and validate payloads, timestamps, statuses, error flags, and transaction details.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, EDI Analysts, DevSecOps Engineers, cloud teams, and integration specialists on operational issues, audits, and architecture decisions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of Edifecs product experience in EDI, healthcare, or enterprise application operations and 8+ years of EDI/HIPAA experience.
• Strong understanding of payer/provider workflows, EDI X12 loops, segments, elements, SNIP validation Levels 1–7, companion guides, and segment- or element-level error analysis.
• Experience with Edifecs Transaction Management, XEngine validation results, processing rules, transaction profiles, SpecBuilder maps, implementation guides, routes, profiles, rulesets, logs, and error codes.
• Experience identifying root causes, resolving mapping mismatches, troubleshooting payer or state-system rejections, and reviewing parsed EDI structures in SQL databases.
• Strong experience with AWS cloud environments and understanding of inbound/outbound workflow architecture.
• Experience translating business reporting requirements into technical data models and communicating architecture decisions and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban, and JIRA.
• Strong documentation skills for transaction flows, error trends, escalations, SOPs, and partner reference guides.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience is considered. Edifecs certification is required.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI); selected applicants are subject to a government security and background investigation.

Nice to have

• Deep hands-on experience with medical claims and healthcare X12 transactions, including 837, 834, 835, 276/277, 270/271, 278, 820, and 999/277CA.
• Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements in cloud data architecture.
• Experience with healthcare payer/PBM systems, clearinghouses, or pharmacy operations.
• AWS certification.
