Senior Software Engineer (Java, SaaS Backup)

Location: Remote work from home for candidates located in the USA and residing in CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, ME, NC, NJ, NY, OR, OH, TN, TX, VA, or WA. Hybrid work is available at physical offices in Austin, Texas and Tampa, Florida. Onsite interviews may be required. Candidates residing within Chicago city limits cannot be hired; candidates outside the city or willing to self-relocate may be considered.

Base salary: $140,000–$200,000 per year for roles based in California, Colorado, New Jersey, Washington, and New York. Starting pay depends on location, market demands, experience, knowledge, and skills.

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable solutions and product improvements for the SaaS backup and recovery platform.
• Develop robust features for backup, archive, restore, and download services.
• Build high-availability, mission-critical software running as a scalable cloud service in AWS.
• Own system design and architecture while implementing design patterns and enterprise-level solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and technology leadership in the USA and Asia, including Singapore and Indonesia.
• Commit production code, support live systems, and mentor engineers on scalable solutions and quality standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of Java software development experience for product applications or equivalent.
• 4+ years of experience working with highly scalable software systems.
• Experience working on systems at scale and finding solutions to scale systems.
• Expertise in Kotlin, object-oriented design, scaling data structures, and OOP design principles.
• Knowledge of API best practices and REST service development using frameworks such as Jersey or Spring.
• Experience with relational database design and development.
• Expert knowledge of quality testing practices and knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas; high adaptability to rapid changes; values aligned with teamwork, problem-solving, customer focus, dependability, and trustworthiness.

Nice to have

• Experience with C# and Ruby.
• Experience with Big Data, SQL tuning, and ETL.
• Expertise in caching systems and experience with Redis.
• Experience with Kafka and data streaming.
• Experience working with global teams across different time zones.
