Senior Backend Developer (Travel)

Location: Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa; hybrid or office-based. Reliable transport is required if working from the office.

Belay Talent Solutions is recruiting for a customer developing travel and expense technology solutions.

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize backend services and APIs.
• Build high-volume, scalable systems for travel booking and related platforms.
• Develop RESTful APIs and integrations with GDS providers, payment gateways, suppliers, and other third parties.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product teams, stakeholders, and customer and supplier integration teams.
• Improve system performance, security, reliability, and production readiness.
• Contribute to DevOps, CI/CD, deployments, documentation, and code reviews.

Requirements

• Approximately 8–10 years of backend-focused software development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience with integration-heavy systems and migrating legacy systems to modern architecture.
• Strong proficiency in C#/.NET, preferably ASP.NET Core; REST API design and development; MS SQL Server database design and performance tuning; and LINQ.
• Solid experience with JSON, XML, SOAP and REST web-services integration, and microservices architecture.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines preferably using Azure DevOps, secure coding practices, Azure Logic Apps, and Microsoft Azure App Services, Functions, and API Management.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, teamwork, independent-working, ownership, quality, and deadline-management skills.
• Reliable transport is required for office-based work.

Nice to have

• Experience in travel, booking, or fintech domains.
• ERP integrations with SAP, Oracle, or Sage.
• Messaging queues such as Service Bus or RabbitMQ; IIS configuration and optimization; and frontend basics including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, or Vue.
• Travel integrations with Amadeus, Travelport, Sabre, or Booking.com.
• Payment gateway integration, high-availability or distributed systems, and data security and compliance including POPIA, GDPR, or PCI DSS.
