Software Engineer Principal (Edifecs)

Location: 100% U.S.-based remote position; candidates from California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington will not be considered. The posting also lists Austin, TX. U.S. citizenship is required.

Salary: $85,389–$116,975 annually.

What you will do

• Administer, configure, troubleshoot, and enhance the Edifecs platform and its XEServer, XEngine, TPM, SpecBuilder, and related modules.
• Build, deploy, and optimize Edifecs processing rules, routing logic, batch workflows, and EDI transaction lifecycles.
• Resolve mapping issues, validation failures, partner-specific rejections, batch-flow failures, and performance bottlenecks.
• Manage logging, JVM tuning, memory management, certificates, keystores, and monitoring dashboards.
• Support releases, environment refreshes, patching, upgrades, high availability, and failover orchestration.
• Collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps, cloud, development, operations, security, and business teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in EDI, healthcare, or enterprise application operations, and 8+ years in software or data engineering with strong AWS experience.
• Strong knowledge of EDIFECS architecture and hands-on experience with XEServer, XEngine, TPM, EDI Gateway, and SpecBuilder.
• Experience managing inbound and outbound EDI connectivity through AS2, SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, API integrations, and gateway services.
• Experience with AWS, including EC2 sizing, operating-system tuning, storage I/O, file-transfer endpoints, routing, firewall coordination, network debugging, and SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management.
• Experience with throughput optimization, engine and JVM performance tuning, memory management, high availability, failover, and proactive monitoring.
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub, branching strategies, pull requests, Ansible, Terraform, Agile methodologies, Scrum, Kanban, and JIRA.
• Knowledge of compliance, audit, partner governance, business reporting requirements, technical data models, and architecture documentation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience is considered.
• Must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI) and meet government security investigation requirements.
• U.S. citizenship is required for this opportunity.

Nice to have

• EDIFECS certification.
• Hands-on experience with X12 medical claims transactions, including 837, 834, 835, 277, 270/271, 278, and 999.
• Knowledge of HIPAA compliance in cloud data architecture and healthcare payer, PBM, clearinghouse, or pharmacy operations.
• AWS certification.
