Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Antonio, Texas, United States; average of 2 days per week at the San Antonio office. U.S. Citizenship is required, and a U.S. Government Security Clearance must be obtained and maintained.

Salary: $119,574–$165,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Develop Java-based software using modern frameworks and libraries.
• Integrate AI coding agents into engineering workflows for multi-file implementation, codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration test generation.
• Guide AI agents through complex multi-repository architectures and audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Collaborate with engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions while working across multiple deadlines.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and team leadership in a fast-paced small-business environment.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance are required; clearance is not required on day one.
• At least 9 years of experience in Software Engineering and modern Java frameworks and libraries, or 7 years of relevant experience with a related master's degree, or 13 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience designing enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices architecture, and object-oriented programming paradigms.
• Experience with the agile software lifecycle and standard software development tool suites.
• Experience with Linux and configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Experience integrating advanced AI agents, specifically Claude Code or Google's Antigravity/Gemini agentic workflows, into daily software engineering work.
• Experience using autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementation, complex codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration test generation.
• Ability to manage context across complex, multi-repository application architectures and critically audit agent-generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Demonstrated experience serving as a tech lead, mentor, or manager for engineering teams; ability to work independently and collaboratively, learn quickly, troubleshoot, test effectively, and work under pressure.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment at the San Antonio office for an average of 2 days per week, with flexibility to adapt to schedule changes.

Nice to have

• Active Secret or Top Secret clearance.
• Additional daily engineering experience with Claude Code or Gemini and autonomous-agent feature delivery, refactoring, and automated testing.
• Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience with distributed databases, NoSQL databases, or full-text search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Scripting experience.
• Familiarity with data lakes or data warehouses.
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and GitHub Enterprise.
