Software Engineer (AI/Java)

Location: Hybrid in San Antonio, Texas, US; an average of 2 days per week at the San Antonio office is required. U.S. citizenship is required, and the role requires obtaining and maintaining a U.S. Government Security Clearance.

Salary: $119,574–$165,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java-based software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Design enterprise APIs and RESTful web services using modern Java frameworks and libraries.
• Build and maintain microservices and object-oriented software solutions.
• Integrate AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Gemini into daily engineering workflows.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature development, codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration test generation.
• Guide engineers and AI agents through complex architectures while reviewing code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
• At least 9 years of software engineering experience with a bachelor's degree, 7 years with a master's degree, or 13 years with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong Java development experience, including modern frameworks and libraries such as Spring, Guava, Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Experience with enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices, object-oriented programming, Linux, and the agile software lifecycle.
• Experience using AI coding agents for feature implementation, refactoring, testing, and multi-repository workflows.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with approximately 2 days per week in the San Antonio office.

Nice to have

• Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
• Experience with AWS or Azure cloud technologies.
• Experience with distributed or NoSQL databases and search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Scripting experience and familiarity with data lakes or data warehouses.
• Experience with JIRA, Confluence, GitHub Enterprise, or similar development tool suites.
