Software Systems Engineer Principal (Edifecs)

Location: 100% remote within the United States; candidates from California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington will not be considered. U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Public Trust (MBI) are required.

Salary: $109,623–$126,790 per year.

What you will do

• Lead the Edifecs application support organization as platform manager, ensuring operational stability, scalability, compliance, and roadmap execution.
• Provide technical oversight, manage staffing, and coordinate with product, architecture, vendors, EDI analysts, DevSecOps, cloud, and business teams.
• Configure and maintain XEServer, XEngine, Trusted Platform Modules, SpecBuilder, EDI Gateway, and related Edifecs modules.
• Guide development, deployment, and optimization of EDI processing rules, routing logic, batch workflows, and partner integrations.
• Resolve mapping defects, validation failures, partner rejections, batch failures, and performance bottlenecks.
• Drive deployments, environment refreshes, patching, upgrades, logging, JVM tuning, certificate management, monitoring, and high-availability operations.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in EDI, healthcare, enterprise application operations, software engineering, or data engineering, including strong AWS experience.
• Strong knowledge of Edifecs architecture and transaction lifecycles, including XEServer, XEngine, TPM, EDI Gateway, and SpecBuilder.
• Experience with EDI connectivity and integrations using AS2, SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, APIs, and gateway services.
• Experience troubleshooting transaction failures, mapping defects, partner-specific rejection patterns, batch flows, throughput, and performance degradation.
• Experience with performance and JVM tuning, memory management, high availability, failover orchestration, monitoring dashboards, AWS EC2 sizing, OS tuning, storage I/O, networking, routing, firewalls, and SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management.
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub, including branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative workflows; infrastructure as code experience with Ansible and Terraform.
• Knowledge of compliance, audit, partner governance, Agile methodologies, Scrum, Kanban, and JIRA.
• Ability to communicate architecture decisions to non-technical stakeholders, translate business reporting requirements into technical data models, resolve ambiguous architecture decisions, and collaborate across development, operations, and security teams.
• U.S. citizenship is required; must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI).

Nice to have

• EDIFECS certification.
• Hands-on experience with X12 medical claims and 270/271 and 278 transactions.
• Knowledge of HIPAA compliance in cloud data architecture and experience with healthcare payer/PBM systems, clearinghouses, or pharmacy operations.
• AWS certification.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
