Senior System Engineer (IBM Mainframe)

Location: Remote, United States; Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM CST. After-hours support and on-call participation may be required.

Salary: $130,730–$155,500 per year, with potential additional compensation such as bonuses.

What you will do

• Install, configure, upgrade, maintain, and customize IBM z/OS operating systems, system parameters, libraries, and subsystems.
• Install and maintain independent software vendor products using SMP/E, including applying PTFs and APARs.
• Plan and execute system IPLs, troubleshoot software issues, analyze dumps, and perform problem determination.
• Support storage management processes involving DASD, SMS, and DFSMS.
• Maintain system configuration and change documentation while collaborating with application teams, operations, and vendors.
• Participate in on-call rotations and after-hours maintenance and upgrade support.

Requirements

• Strong experience with IBM z/OS internals and system components.
• Strong experience with SMP/E for software installation and maintenance.
• Strong experience with JCL, REXX, SAS, COBOL, TSO/ISPF, and SMP/E.
• Strong experience with BMC MAINVIEW, CMF, BMC AmiOps automation, Phoenix EJES, Innovation FDR, DSF, FDREPORT, IAM, and Chicago Soft QwickRef.
• Knowledge of system utilities including IEBCOPY, IDCAMS, and IEBGENER.
• Experience with system IPLs, dump analysis, and problem determination.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, another engineering or technical discipline, or equivalent, plus 10 years of experience. Ten additional years of relevant experience may substitute for education.
• Ability to pass a Tier 4/High Background Investigation.

Nice to have

• Experience with additional IBM subsystems such as CICS.
• Familiarity with automation and scheduling tools.
• Knowledge of disaster recovery and high-availability configurations.
• Experience with mainframe performance tuning and capacity planning.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, independent and collaborative working ability, excellent documentation and communication skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
