Systems Administrator, IT

Location: Hybrid, Rockville, MD, USA, with regular on-site days and occasional on-call or after-hours maintenance windows.

Salary: $62,000–$70,000 per year.

What you will do

• Administer Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP across hybrid on-premises and cloud environments.
• Manage Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune, including user and endpoint lifecycle, access groups, device compliance, and application deployment.
• Maintain virtualized infrastructure, storage, backups, capacity monitoring, and restore testing.
• Patch and update servers and endpoints using remote monitoring and management tools, and report on compliance.
• Operate security controls, triage alerts, remediate findings, and manage onboarding, offboarding, and access changes under documented approval.
• Maintain runbooks and change records, support audits and security questionnaires, and participate in critical-issue and maintenance rotations.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of experience as a systems administrator or in a similar infrastructure role.
• Bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Working experience with Windows Server and Active Directory in a hybrid environment.
• Working experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune or a comparable endpoint management tool.
• Solid networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewalls.
• Experience with PowerShell or another scripting language for automation.
• Understanding of least privilege, MFA, patch management, and logging.
• Clear written communication and the ability to create documentation others can follow.
• Ability to prioritize multiple requests and work with minimal supervision.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS administration.
• Familiarity with virtualization, preferably VMware, backup, and storage fundamentals.
• Experience with a remote monitoring and management platform.
• Exposure to SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, or SOX IT general controls.
• Experience in a regulated or life sciences environment.
• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft MD-102, AZ-104, SC-300, or CompTIA Security+.
