Senior Audio Software Engineer (DSP & Audio Engine)

Location: Singapore preferred; remote candidates based in Asia, Europe, or Africa time zones (roughly UTC+0 to UTC+9) are also considered on an independent contractor basis.

What you will do

• Design and implement audio DSP algorithms for filters, dynamics, reverbs, modulation, amp modeling, pitch processing, noise reduction, mastering, synthesis, sampling, and music analysis.
• Build and optimize the real-time audio engine, including the audio graph, mixer, transport, recording, playback, and MIDI, maintaining glitch-free, low-latency performance across devices.
• Own platform-agnostic business logic and cross-platform APIs for tracks, regions, MIDI, automation, patterns, and effect chains.
• Shape and ship audio features in collaboration with product, design, client development, QA, and support teams.
• Improve automated audio regression testing, CI, static analysis, sanitizers, profiling, and code review practices.
• Prototype new ideas through test applications, command-line tools, and plug-in prototypes.

Requirements

• Senior-level, hands-on DSP experience, including designing and implementing audio processing algorithms rather than only integrating existing libraries.
• Strong knowledge of digital filter design; frequency-domain processing including FFT, STFT, overlap-add, and convolution; dynamics, modulation, and time-based effects; resampling, interpolation, and aliasing.
• Ability to turn mathematical designs or prototypes into efficient production implementations.
• Real-time audio programming expertise, including audio architecture constraints, predictable CPU usage, profiling, and fixing dropouts.
• Solid modern C++ experience, including C++17/20, in performance-critical code.
• Experience building multiplatform music or audio applications and platform-agnostic business logic for a DAW, sequencer, or mixing application used across several client platforms.
• Good engineering practices, including testable and maintainable code, version control, code review, and CI.
• Autonomous, proactive, collaborative, product-focused communication skills, with the ability to explain DSP concepts to non-specialists and share knowledge through mentoring and documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with Core Audio, AAudio, Web Audio, or WebAssembly.
• Experience with cross-language bindings such as Djinni, JNI, Objective-C++, or Emscripten.
• SIMD optimization and ARM/NEON performance work.
• Audio plug-in development with JUCE, VST3, or AU.
• Music information retrieval, pitch/tempo/key analysis, or ML-based audio processing.
• MIDI, synthesizer, or sampler design; being a musician, producer, or audio engineer.
