Software Engineer, Payments (Java)

Location: US remote eligible; residence is required in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity, with occasional office or offsite attendance possible.

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 USD annual base pay.

Airbnb operates a global platform for stays and experiences, with the Payments team supporting guests, Hosts, and Airbnb businesses.

What you will do

• Build backend services and APIs for the Earnings Dashboard and other payments features that help Hosts grow their income and drive revenue.
• Develop data services for Host performance metrics, recommendations, and reports while maintaining accuracy and performance.
• Translate product, compliance, and regulatory requirements into clean, well-tested code.
• Implement experimentation, logging, and metrics for product and Data Science testing and impact measurement.
• Use data to identify conversion, Host engagement, and reliability gaps and drive improvements.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, Finance, Legal, and engineering teams; participate in design discussions, code reviews, and operational improvements.

Requirements

• 2+ years of hands-on software engineering experience in backend or full-stack development.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Exposure to Java and experience building services in a distributed microservice environment.
• Fluency in frontend web technologies such as HTML, CSS, React, and GraphQL.
• Demonstrated expertise in backend systems within large-scale service-oriented architectures.
• Passion for efficiency, availability, technical quality, and system quality.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including effective work across engineering and cross-functional teams.
