Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: London, England, United Kingdom; hybrid, with office attendance required approximately twice per quarter.

What you will do

• Design, build and deliver scalable production-quality software and distributed cloud-based microservices.
• Develop JVM-based services, RESTful APIs and event-driven solutions using Java, Spring Boot and Kafka.
• Build, deploy and operate microservices across the full development lifecycle using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, AWS and related tooling.
• Apply test-driven development by writing unit, integration and functional tests for web services.
• Drive development lifecycle practices, technical trade-offs, operational excellence, system availability and stakeholder delivery.
• Mentor junior developers and help teach, empower and support colleagues within a Scrum team.

Requirements

• Solid Java software development skills, ideally using Java 21 or higher and the Spring framework, particularly Spring Boot 3.x.
• Good experience writing unit, integration and functional tests for web services, with a test-driven development mindset.
• Experience with Kafka, event streaming and event-driven architecture.
• Experience with SQL databases and strong knowledge of PostgreSQL.
• Interest in continuous integration and continuous delivery, with experience using build tools such as Gradle or Maven.
• Experience helping lead development lifecycle processes, applying best practices and operating distributed cloud-based microservices.
• Strong knowledge of designing and building RESTful APIs.
• Experience building and deploying production-level microservices using Docker, Kubernetes and Helm, including JVM-based microservices running in Kubernetes through all development lifecycle stages.
• Proven experience building cloud-based solutions using AWS; good experience delivering software in an Agile manner as part of a Scrum team.
• Excellent communication skills, solid work ethic, and a strong commitment to reliable, maintainable, performant and production-quality code.
• Deep understanding of Agile software development best practices, stakeholder management, mentoring and assessing technical trade-offs.
