Senior Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA; relocation expense coverage to NYC or SF may be available if needed.

Target base salary: $172,000–$280,000 annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design and build backend services, APIs, and data models supporting accounting workflows across Ramp products.
• Ensure financial data remains accurate, traceable, and resilient through coding, reconciliation, and synchronization.
• Improve the reliability, observability, and failure handling of workflows spanning Ramp and customer accounting systems.
• Partner with product and engineering colleagues to translate finance-team needs into practical technical designs.
• Own substantial projects from design and implementation through launch, monitoring, and iteration.
• Raise engineering quality through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship.

Requirements

• Experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems, including APIs, data models, and asynchronous workflows.
• Strong system design judgment, particularly around data correctness, reliability, and keeping complex systems understandable.
• Track record of independently owning complex projects and shipping high-quality software.
• Ability to investigate problems across services and data flows and turn findings into durable improvements.
• Clear communication and a collaborative approach to technical decisions and feedback.

Nice to have

• Experience with accounting, payments, spend management, or other financial data products.
• Familiarity with coding, reconciliation, or general ledger concepts.
• Experience building integrations or data workflows that keep information consistent across systems.
