Sr. AI Software Engineer (Remote)

Location: Home-based remote role; candidates must reside at hire in AL, AZ, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, NC, NE, NJ, NV, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, or WV. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required; relocation assistance is not provided.

Salary: $100,200–$140,000 per year.

What you will do

• Embed with business teams across health and benefits, retirement and wealth, operations, contact center, finance, HR, marketing, sales, and engineering to identify automatable or bottlenecked work.
• Translate business needs into solution statements, success criteria, data requirements, feasibility prototypes, and recommendations on whether AI is appropriate.
• Build and ship production agents and automations on approved enterprise platforms, including assistant and agent frameworks, low-code workflows, document intelligence, conversational capabilities, agent assist, and natural language analytics.
• Design multi-tier agent systems with orchestration, scoped tools, defined boundaries, human handoffs, approved connectors, and MCP servers.
• Baseline processes and instrument deployments to measure cycle time, volume, errors, rework, cost, quality, ROI, governance, security, and compliance outcomes.
• Document and hand off completed solutions, create reusable patterns and starter kits, run enablement sessions, and report lessons and tooling gaps to the AI Center of Excellence.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
• 3–6 years of software engineering experience shipping and supporting production systems.
• More than 2 years of hands-on experience building AI solutions across assistants, agents, workflow automation, retrieval, and document processing.
• End-to-end ownership from business concept through requirements, prototype, and production use.
• Ability to define and measure business value, construct a baseline, defend the measurement method, and communicate costs and benefits independently.
• Working knowledge of an AI governance or management framework such as ISO/IEC 42001 or NIST AI RMF, with the ability to implement its controls.
• Experience instrumenting telemetry during development and working effectively with unfamiliar business functions and stakeholders.
• Ability to learn and adapt to changing AI platforms and tooling.
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods and work at a computer.

Nice to have

• AI continuous learning certifications.
• Experience in financial services, healthcare, benefits administration, or another regulated industry handling PII, PHI, or fiduciary data.
• Process improvement experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or process mining.
• Fluency in low-code automation platforms alongside code-first development.
• Experience with contact center, claims, or back-office operations technology.
• Experience developing internal enablement materials, documentation, or practitioner communities.
