Principal Software Engineer (Emerging Technology & AI)

Location: Remote anywhere in the United States, except Hawaii and Alaska. Travel is required as needed for divisional, team, and other in-person meetings.

Salary: $177,525–$236,650 annually, depending on work location. National average range: $177,525–$197,250. Colorado range: $177,525–$216,950. Annual discretionary bonus eligibility of up to 15% of eligible pay.

What you will do

• Design and lead time-boxed prototypes, proofs of concept, and controlled pilots for AI, generative AI, agentic AI, and other emerging enterprise technologies.
• Evaluate cloud services, AI platforms, APIs, data sources, vendor products, integrations, architecture patterns, security implications, and governance considerations.
• Build maintainable prototype software and integrations to validate feasibility, platform capabilities, architecture assumptions, risks, and tradeoffs.
• Create experiment documentation, technical decision records, reusable patterns, standards input, and platform recommendations.
• Transition validated concepts to engineering, platform, and delivery teams with clear architecture and implementation guidance.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, AI Strategy, Security, Data, Risk, Legal, Procurement, vendors, and business sponsors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
• 10 years of software development experience.
• Knowledge and experience with technologies and platforms relevant to the role, including cloud-native services and architectures such as AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, and S3.
• Experience with software build, integration, and deployment tools such as Jenkins and Maven.
• Experience with programming languages and frameworks such as Java/J2EE, Python, Node, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React.
• Applicable certifications aligned to the technology stack.
• Ability to evaluate and apply AI, generative AI, agentic AI, intelligent document processing, and emerging technologies in enterprise use cases.
• Ability to diagnose sophisticated issues across applications, APIs, cloud services, AI platforms, data sources, and integration layers, and to communicate technical findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel as needed, support business needs, contribute to company culture, mentor employees, and participate in cross-functional projects.
