TL;DR
Senior Legal Counsel, Power & Land (AI/Bitcoin Mining Infrastructure): Leading land, real estate, utility, interconnection, power and infrastructure transactions that move U.S. and Alberta sites from acquisition through energization, with an accent on complex site development, energy arrangements and regulatory approvals. Focus on negotiating interconnection and transmission agreements, managing land-use proceedings and specialist counsel, coordinating construction and EPC documentation, and tracking obligations across multi-entity projects.

Location: Austin, Texas, US; the role is also described as being based in San Jose, California, with travel to project sites, utility and regulatory meetings, and hearings as needed. Some meetings may take place outside U.S. business hours.

Company

hirify.global develops Bitcoin mining infrastructure, AI computational infrastructure, data centers, power infrastructure and cloud capabilities across multiple countries.

What you will do

  • Lead land and site transactions, including acquisitions, leases, options, easements, rights-of-way, title and survey review, water rights and post-closing obligations.
  • Negotiate utility, interconnection, transmission, distribution, energy management and retail supply arrangements, including financial security, milestones and energization obligations.
  • Advise on interconnection strategy, queue positions, large-load thresholds, study processes and cost allocation across ERCOT, PJM, TVA and Alberta markets.
  • Support site selection and diligence covering zoning, land use, entitlements, permitting, environmental review, utilities, water availability, tax incentives and special districts.
  • Lead land-use and entitlement proceedings with local counsel, including rezoning, variances, moratoria and public hearings; negotiate long-lead electrical equipment and coordinate site, power, EPC and construction documentation.
  • Manage utilities, cooperatives, landowners, developers, authorities and specialist counsel while building form agreements, diligence standards, obligation tracking and entity-signature controls.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing. California admission is preferred; attorneys admitted in another U.S. jurisdiction must be eligible to register as Registered In-House Counsel in California.
  • 7+ years of transactional experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house, with a substantial share in real estate development, energy and power, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience leading complex transactions end to end as the responsible attorney, including structuring, drafting, negotiating and closing.
  • Direct experience with utility and interconnection arrangements, including interconnection and service agreements, easements, rights-of-way, and negotiations with utilities and cooperatives.
  • Practical command of purchase and sale transactions, ground and build-to-suit leasing, title and survey review, easements, zoning, land use and related diligence.
  • Experience managing specialist and local counsel across multiple states and deciding which work remains in-house.
  • Clear writing, strong self-motivation and a collaborative working style.
  • Ability to work with colleagues across Asia and North America, including meetings outside U.S. business hours, and to travel to project sites, utility and regulatory meetings, and hearings.

Nice to have

  • ERCOT experience with large-load interconnection, Texas transmission and distribution providers, and electric cooperatives, or comparable depth in PJM, TVA or Alberta.
  • In-house experience at a data center developer, hyperscaler, independent power producer, utility or renewable energy developer.
  • Experience with construction and EPC contracting or long-lead electrical equipment procurement.
  • Familiarity with public-company disclosure obligations related to project timing and energization.
  • Experience with Canadian, specifically Alberta, land and power matters.

Culture & Benefits

  • Inclusive and respectful environment valuing authenticity and diverse perspectives.
  • Fast-growing, global company with an energetic start-up spirit and open workspaces.
  • Autonomy, personal accountability, rapid growth and learning opportunities.
  • Training, mentoring, networking and opportunities to contribute to digital asset and AI computing projects.
