Legal Counsel (AI)

Location: Palo Alto, California; full-time on-site Monday-Friday

Base pay: $330,000–$380,000 USD per year, plus equity; exceptions may be considered based on skills and experience.

hirify.global is an AI startup building personal AI systems, including training infrastructure, open-weight model post-training, personal hardware, and next-generation interfaces.

What you will do

• Serve as a primary legal advisor to founders and leaders across engineering, research, product, people, and go-to-market, including support for financing rounds.
• Draft, negotiate, and close commercial agreements covering compute and infrastructure, SaaS, licensing, vendors, partnerships, and customers.
• Build scalable legal templates, playbooks, processes, and AI tooling.
• Advise on AI/ML products from design through launch, including terms of service, data licensing and provenance, open-weight model releases, privacy, and IP strategy.
• Advise on employment matters, including offers, equity, contractor/EOR arrangements, workplace policies, and sensitive investigations.
• Track AI regulation across federal, state, and international jurisdictions, manage outside counsel, and develop practical compliance guidance.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in the California bar, or eligibility to register as in-house counsel in California.
• 6+ years of combined experience at a top law firm and in-house at a high-growth technology company, with significant ownership of product, commercial, corporate, or other legal subject matter.
• Ability to handle unfamiliar legal questions, form informed views quickly, and identify when specialist support is needed.
• Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with judgment to provide concise, risk-calibrated, business-focused advice.
• Discretion and sound judgment when handling sensitive matters and information, with the ability to build trust across the company.
• Genuine enthusiasm for technology and AI, fluency in modern software and AI tooling, and a habit of using these tools to work more efficiently.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal issues to non-lawyers.
• Ability to work full-time on-site in Palo Alto.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced startup environment.

Nice to have

• Privacy or regulatory expertise, including CIPP/US and EU certifications or experience negotiating directly with regulators internationally.
• Engineering or science background.
• Experience with healthcare and financial industries.
• Familiarity with equity management platforms such as Carta.
• Experience with financing rounds.
