Lead DevOps Engineer (AWS)

What you will do

• Build and mature the infrastructure engineering capability supporting customer deployments across new and existing AWS environments.
• Design, provision, secure, troubleshoot, and operate multi-account AWS environments, landing zones, networking foundations, and production infrastructure.
• Develop reusable Terraform modules, infrastructure templates, deployment patterns, CI/CD, observability, secrets management, and automation.
• Lead cloud security hardening, operational-readiness improvements, legacy modernization, migrations, disaster recovery, production cutovers, and post-migration stabilization.
• Assess unfamiliar environments, identify risks and technical debt, define migration plans and actionable deliverables, and drive work through completion autonomously.
• Establish engineering standards and team responsibilities while mentoring engineers and partnering with application, security, networking, and customer stakeholders.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, SRE, Infrastructure Engineering, or a related discipline, including significant production AWS experience.
• Deep hands-on experience designing, operating, securing, troubleshooting, and improving production AWS workloads and infrastructure.
• Strong networking knowledge covering TCP/IP, routing, subnetting, DNS, NAT, firewalls, VPNs, proxies, load balancers, security groups, network ACLs, and AWS networking services.
• Production experience with VPC architecture, Transit Gateway, Route 53, ALB/NLB, PrivateLink/VPC endpoints, VPN connectivity, and multi-account or hybrid-network environments.
• Experience with AWS Organizations, account provisioning, cross-account access, centralized networking, security governance, and repeatable infrastructure delivery across multiple environments.
• Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, establishing standards, coordinating concurrent initiatives, and improving DevOps maturity and production reliability.
• Strong AWS security knowledge covering IAM, least-privilege access, network security, encryption, secrets management, infrastructure hardening, and secure configuration management.
• Experience supporting production migrations involving data centers or hosted infrastructure, including lift-and-shift, re-platforming, or cloud modernization.
• Advanced Terraform proficiency and experience managing production infrastructure through version-controlled infrastructure as code.
• Strong Linux administration, security hardening, and troubleshooting skills; production experience with Docker and ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes.
• Experience designing, securing, and operating CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD, or similar tools; monitoring and observability using Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or comparable platforms.
• Strong scripting ability with Python, Bash, or similar languages for infrastructure, security, and operational automation.
• Experience supporting business-critical production environments with uptime, security, change control, incident response, and operational discipline requirements.
• Ability to assess unfamiliar environments independently, prioritize work, define a path forward, and explain technical risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and recommendations to technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, financial services, banking, or another highly regulated, high-transaction environment.
• Experience with PCI DSS, SOC 2, CIS Benchmarks, NIST, or similar security and compliance frameworks.
• Experience with AWS Organizations, Control Tower, Security Hub, GuardDuty, Config, CloudTrail, Inspector, or similar services.
• Experience conducting infrastructure, DevOps, or security maturity assessments and creating prioritized engineering roadmaps.
• Experience building infrastructure teams, leading end-to-end migrations, and implementing AWS disaster recovery environments, replication strategies, runbooks, and RTO/RPO objectives.
• Familiarity with Aurora/MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, or other distributed data platforms; GitOps workflows using Atlantis, Terraform Cloud/Enterprise, Scalr, or Argo CD.
• Experience building internal platforms, improving FinOps and cloud cost efficiency, using AI-assisted engineering tools, or holding advanced AWS, CKA, or similar certifications.
