Claims Examiner (Non-CA) (Insurance)

Location: Remote within the United States; position listed in Austin, TX, US. An in-person interview may be required during the hiring process.

Salary: USD $56,701–$102,219 per year, varying by state, experience, skills, and location. Additional state-specific pay scales are listed in the posting.

What you will do

• Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, settle, and authorize payment for low- to high-complexity bodily injury claims.
• Analyze medical records, law enforcement reports, witness interviews, liability, damages, injuries, reserves, legal risk, venue, and anticipated expenses.
• Communicate with customers, claimants, attorneys, law offices, and other insurance carriers throughout the life of a claim.
• Coordinate with medical and technical experts, outside counsel, and legal counsel to resolve claims.
• Participate in settlement, mediation, arbitration, depositions, and trials, including serving as the Company Representative when required.
• Apply claims-handling procedures and state laws, regulations, and policies across multiple states.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Prior experience investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and settling moderately to highly complex claims, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• May be required to obtain a company-sponsored Adjuster's license upon hire.
• Thorough knowledge of Mercury claims-handling policies and procedures.
• Analytical ability to assess causation and exposure involving complex fact patterns, bodily injuries, and property damage.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, organizational skills, prioritization, judgment, risk assessment, negotiation, conflict resolution, collaboration, emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and accountability.
• Ability to work remotely with a dedicated workspace free from distractions.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook and Word, and claims-related software.
