Senior Engineering Manager (Credit Cards)

Location: San Francisco, CA; New York, NY; Portland, OR; or remote within Canada or the United States.

Salary: US employees: $239,000–$298,800 USD base salary; Canadian employees: $225,900–$282,400 CAD base salary.

What you will do

• Lead a team of 7+ backend and full-stack engineers building and operating the credit card platform.
• Hire, mentor, retain, and coach engineers and emerging leaders across experience levels.
• Shape the organization as the payment rails group scales.
• Drive predictable execution against company and product goals while balancing new development, maintenance, and operational excellence.
• Uphold technical quality, reliability, system stability, and maintainable system design.
• Partner with Product, Design, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Finance to prioritize high-impact work and build cohesive products.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience managing software engineering teams at multiple organizations.
• Previous experience being hired as an external manager and gaining domain knowledge quickly enough to make a positive impact.
• Experience operating in high-responsibility or high-impact domains.
• Comfort with ambiguity and growing scope.
• A track record of leading through cross-functional and cross-team coordination.
• Strong technical judgment and credibility, including interviewing at a technical depth similar to senior individual contributors.
• Familiarity with Haskell or willingness to learn it.
• Experience in finance, fintech, or banking systems.

• Experience leading remote-first or distributed teams.
• Credit card experience.
