Director, Software Engineering (AI/ML)

Location: Crossman Respect Building, Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite home office.

Salary: $169,000–$338,000 annually, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Lead execution and delivery of complex software, data, and machine learning systems with reliable, scalable, cross-platform integration.
• Oversee the full software development lifecycle, including architecture, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Drive backlog prioritization, capacity planning, system optimization, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with product and data teams to deliver AI/ML-enabled features and agentic systems.
• Manage cross-functional dependencies, align technology roadmaps and milestones, and engage stakeholders.
• Mentor, coach, and develop high-performing engineering teams while championing DevOps and cloud cost optimization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area and 6 years of experience in software engineering or a related area; alternatively, 8 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
• 3 years of supervisory experience.
• Proven leadership in complex software engineering projects focused on system reliability, scalability, and integration.
• Expertise in full software development lifecycles, including architecture, deployment, and maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of DevOps practices, observability tools, and cloud cost optimization strategies.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technology roadmaps and project milestones.
• Ability to drive AI/ML-enabled product development and integrate agentic systems using modern programming languages.
• Skills in stakeholder management, capacity planning, continuous process improvement, problem-solving, and strategic technology and product thinking.
